High County Hope – NAMI Walks 2015

nami walks 14

Join us for NAMI Walks. The walk takes place on the beautiful Dorothea Dix Hospital campus in Raleigh on Saturday May 2nd, 2015. The walk starts at 10 am, but arrive early at 9 am for registration. Don’t worry if you are not in great shape, because it is a nice easy leisurely walk. If you have never been to the campus, it is a treat. There are large shade trees, a nice flat walking surface, water stations along the way, and is also wheelchair accessible

So you ask why give up a Saturday to drive to Raleigh to participate in a walk? Every journey begins with that first step. Every year tens of thousands of concerned citizens in more than 84 communities across the nation will join NAMI and walk together to raise money and awareness about our country’s need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness. Your participation will help end the stigma of mental illness and bring awareness to recovery (www.nami.org).  Every person has the right to achieve recovery. Help us help people in our community who do not have a voice.

To sign up go to this link, create a log in and you are all set. You will create your very own webpage for donations (Don’t worry it is a easy step by step process.)

From this page you can add pictures and videos, send out emails to friends and family asking for donations, they even have a sample email already to go. Directions are provided to make this process fast and easy. Everything is done online, except for the walk itself. They even take credit cards. You will not even have go back to your friends and coworkers to ask for the donations. It could not be simpler or pain free.

We have nice colorful t-shirts made up for all team members. You do not even have to buy a t-shirt.

So you say Raleigh is a long way and I don’t want to drive that far. You can car pool with a buddy and make it a day of fun and shopping (or maybe see a museum) Don’t let the distance deter you from joining us.

After the walk is over, there is still more fun to be had. NAMI NC hosts a t-shirt contest, dancing, booths, and face painting for the kids. Do you miss the friends you made at the conference? They will be at this event! It is a great networking opportunity to see what other NAMI groups are up to and to see our state NAMI in action.

Please join us for this fun filled Saturday, get some exercise for a good cause! Help us fight the stigma.

If you have any questions please contact me at alloew@hotmail.com and I can answer questions regarding the walk.

Thanks from your team captain,

Alison Loew
